If you are new to the lift, returning from injury, pregnant or postpartum, managing a medical condition, or unsure of your technique, use a submaximal estimate instead. Ask a qualified coach and your healthcare professional whether maximal testing is appropriate for you. If you test, use a spotter and stop if you feel pain.

What is a one-rep max?
A one-rep max, often written as 1RM, is the heaviest weight you can complete for one full repetition of a specific exercise while maintaining sound technique.
It is not a general score for how strong you are. Your one-rep max will be different for each exercise, and the number only means something when the movement is performed consistently. Coaches and training programs often use it as a reference point when choosing working weights for different strength goals.
Do I have to actually test a max to know it?
No. You can estimate your one-rep max by entering a lighter weight that you lifted for several controlled repetitions. That is what this calculator is designed to do.
The result is an estimate, not a promise that you can or should attempt that weight. Its accuracy can vary based on the exercise, the number of repetitions entered, your technique, and how close the set was to your actual limit.
For programming purposes, an estimate can still give you a useful starting reference without requiring you to attempt a true maximum.
