Fascia, Stiffness, and Movement: A Naples Fitness Guide

April 7, 2024

Reviewed September 2026.

Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and connects muscles and other structures. It is one part of how the body moves, but it is not a single explanation for pain.

Use Varied, Controlled Movement

Long periods in one position can leave you feeling stiff. Regular movement through comfortable ranges can help you practice bending, reaching, and rotating without treating the tissue as if it stores a memory. Ideally you want to move through all three planes:

  • Sagittal plane: Movements involving bending forward and backward (like lunges)
  • Coronal plane: Movements involving bending sideways (like reaching to the side)
  • Transverse plane: Movements involving twisting your spine (like looking over your shoulder)

By incorporating exercises that target all three planes of motion (sagittal, coronal, and transverse), you can help keep your fascia healthy and mobile, leading to better overall movement and potentially less pain.

Nutrition Is Not a Fascia Treatment Plan

A balanced diet and adequate fluid intake support general health, but this article should not prescribe nutrients as a treatment for pain. If you need individualized nutrition guidance, work with a registered dietitian or another qualified professional.

When Coaching Can Help

A Forge coach can help you practice strength, mobility, and controlled movement within a training session. Training does not diagnose the cause of pain. If pain persists, worsens, or changes how you move, get it assessed by the appropriate healthcare professional.
